Upcoming soulslike shooter Remainder 2 was just shown at Summer Game Fest as part of the preview of E3 2023. The new trailer features thrilling third-person action, as well as a wide variety of weapons, and the footage emphasizes brutal co-op gunplay.
The trailer shows gothic gunslingers and teamwork in the face of terrifying monsters. Offering a refreshing mix of sci-fi and dark fantasy, residue 2 it has a distinctive aesthetic, not to mention a hell of a lot of guns. Fans of Lovecraftian nightmares, terrifying gas masks and dieselpunk have something to look forward to.
Remainder 2 could very well be among the best co-op games of the year if the devs keep the landing in their plans for a soulsborne-style dynamic shooter.
Remainder 2 continues its predecessor Remant: From the asheswhich was released in 2019. However, unlike its predecessor, Remainder 2 will not be available on Nintendo Switch.
Gunfire Games, people behind them residue 2, are also known for their work on the Darksiders series, a beloved hack-and-slash action game set in an apocalyptic world. While the Remant series plays quite differently, Gunfire has a serious pedigree when it comes to otherworldly horror.
Although she likes Ring of the Elden AND Dark Souls 3 offer cooperation, Remainder 2 seems to be designed explicitly with multiplayer in mind. While we don’t yet know to what extent Gunfire will deliver on that promise, it’s satisfying to see the studio trying out a new approach to Soulsborne titles.
The same can be said about the title’s emphasis on ranged combat. The addition of firearms to the Soulsborne melange opens up a wide range of new options for developers and players alike. The addition of ranged combat allows skirmishes to make better use of verticality as well as the mechanics of cover and cover fire.
Residue 2 will arrive on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC on July 25, 2023.
